Yes or no to Grain free diets?

Updated: May 23, 2023

In the past year, there have been many speculations from the media about certain diets labelled ''grain free'' which could promote a cardiac disease. Here is a brief explanation regarding this on-going topic.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), they have identified 16 brands of pet food that could possibly be related to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in our pets. DCM is a heart disease in which the heart muscle weakens and does not contract properly due to the dilated heart chambers, which causes an inability in the heart to pump the blood well throughout the body. There is a suspicion that there may be a link between certain ingredients and DCM, however, nothing is conclusive. The FDA and veterinary cardiologists are continuing to investigate this potential association.

Our veterinary team does not recommend grain free diets because there is no scientific proof that it is more beneficial than other diets. For dietary information, come visit us and we will take the time to choose the best suitable diet together for your pet. We are here to guide you!
