Preventive Medicine

An annual exam is essential to identify certain conditions quickly and minimize their impact on the health of your pet. During the physical examination, the veterinarian will check the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and teeth, ganglia, hydration, abdomen, heart and lungs, skin, joints and temperature. He will ask you about his/her general condition and behavior at home too. The veterinarian will discuss with you a vaccination protocol: several vaccines are available and they will be proposed according to the lifestyle of your animal. The health of your pet is directly related to the quality of her/her eating habits.

We have set up various services to inform you about pet nutrition:

  • Weight Control Program
  • Free individual meetings with an animal health technician
  • Boutique offering a complet range of quality food

Surgeries are performed at the LaSalle Veterinary Clinic. We use isoflurane which is a gas easily eliminated by the liver and kidneys and safe for geriatric pets. An animal health technician will follow your pet as soon as s/he is premedicated, throughout her surgery and when s/he wakes up too. Specially designed cages in our pre-operative room allow us to always see your pet. We use heated mats so that your pet’s temperature is always adequate and checked during and after surgery. Under anesthesia, your pet is monitored by a pulse oximeter that tells us about heart rate, oxygen saturation and respiratory rate of it. Upon awakening, we will make sure your pet is comfortable and supervised. When your pet is awake, we will be happy to phone you to give you news about your companion.

Dental health problems can be serious for your pet. Infections can cause damage not only to the jaw but also to other organs such as the heart, kidneys and bladder. The bacteria contained in the tartar gets into the blood stream and can damage other vital organs. During your annual visit with your pet, the veterinarian will examine his / her teeth and our technicians will be happy to give you the necessary information so that your animal has good dental hygiene. We also offer a wide range of dental procedures, dental examinations, cleanings, scaling, polishing of the teeth, extractions, under general anesthesia.

Our equipment provides very good quality x-rays and our automatic developer allows us to have them quickly.

We have blood analyzers (hematology and biochemistry) on-site that ensure rapid results so that we can start the appropriate treatments within hours of your visit. We do urine and stool analysis on-site as well.

We offer grooming under sedation for cats that are unable to undergo conventional grooming. Occasionally, we do it for dogs as well, for example, when they are too agitated or their fur is too matted and they will need sedation.

We offer a boarding service for cats and dogs. Your pet will be safe with us at the clinic while you are away. A member of our team will take your dog for a walk three times a day.

Weight Control

Obesity in pets is becoming more widespread. Overweight animals are at risk for the same problems as humans : diabetes, osteoarthritis, respiratory problems and cardiovascular disease.

Of course, we want to spoil our furry companion but it must be done cautiously. A glass of milk given to a 10 pound (4.5 kg) cat is equal to 4.5 burgers or 5 chocolate bars for a human… that’s huge! You want a healthy pet with a beautiful figure but you do not want him/her to be hungry all the time! This is where our service comes into play.

We offer a weight management service. A technician will meet with you and analyze the nutritional needs of your pet. She will suggest a plan that includes the appropriate food that will ensure that your pet will be satisfied, an exercise plan and follow-up visits at the clinic.

We offer the option of specialized services offered by e-Vet mobile also.
